An elliptical reflector is a specially shaped reflector whose surface is shaped like a portion of an ellipse. This type of reflector has unique applications in the field of optics, especially when light needs to be transferred from one point (focus) to another. Elliptical reflectors take advantage of the geometric properties of an ellipse, that is, light reflected from any point on the ellipse will pass through another focus of the ellipse.
